Describes how people tend to value items they own more than if they didn’t own them
What is essentialism?
-categories maintained
-things have a set amount of characteristics
What is ‘extended self’?
-a concept that describe how a person’s identity can extend beyond their body and mind to include people and possessions
-people can consider these things to be part of themselves and their identity
What is ‘identity’?
-personalities and other markers of unique identity are innate
-a combination of characteristics that make a person individual and unique
What is ‘interactionist theory’?
-focuses on how peoples’ interactions with others shapes their relationship with society
-this can include language acquisition, social context, micro interactions, interpretations of behaviour
-this was first suggested by Jerome Bruner and is based on Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory
What is ‘rationalism’?
The idea that reason is the primary source of knowledge rather than sensory experience
