Life Processes Flashcards
What do all living things have?
7 life processes
How do you remember the 7 life processes?
MRSGREN
What are the life processes? (Mrsgren)
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.
What is movement?
A change in the position of an organism.
What is the importance of movement?
It is important in growth, reproduction, protection from unfavorable conditions, predators and feeding.
What is respiration?
The breakdown of food to release energy.
What is the importance of respiration?
It provides energy to carry out the life processes.
What is sensitivity?
The ability to detect and respond to changes in the environment.
What is the importance of sensitivity?
It is important so organisms can detect and respond to environmental changes, ensuring their survival, adaptation and well being.
What is growth?
Permanent increase in size and complexity of an organism
What is the importance of growth?
To reach maturity so that the organism can carry out all the life processes.
What is reproduction?
The ability of organisms to make new organisms of the same kind.
What is the importance of reproduction?
Ensuring the survival and continuation of a species.
What are the two kinds of reproduction?
Asexual and sexual reproduction
What is asexual reproduction?
Where one individual is involved and there is no exchange of gametes.
