Q

key words

A
  • Fulcrum/axis
    ○ The point at which the lever rotates around
    • Effort/force arm
      ○ The distance between the fulcrum and the end at which the force is being applied
    • Input (effort) force
      ○ Force exerted on the lever
    • Output (resistant) force
      Force exerted by the lever

Q

3rd class lever

A
  • The axis is located at one end, with the application of the force in the middle and resistance applied at the opposite end
    • Is the most common type of lever in the human body
    • When looking at the human body
      ○ The muscle attachment represents the application of force
      ○ The joint usually represents the fulcrum
      the weight represents the resistance

Q

3rd class lever explained

A

imagine a board on a point
point is at left end and is the fulcrum
effort force is applied in the middle
weight is placed at opposite end

elbow joint
fulcrum is joint
effort force is applied through forearm muscle which is in the middle
weight is placed at opposite end in hand

Q

function

A

speed multiplier
The end of the lever travels a further distance over the same period meaning the velocity at the end is greater

Increasing the length of the lever can increase the maximum velocity/angular momentum of the club
However this also can mean an increase in weight which can negatively affect control or angular velocity generated
Maximise lever length at the point of impact by extending at the joint to maximise the speed of the impact or release point
