What is a Fulcrum
Point of a movement or pivot, generally at the centre of a joint
What is load?
The bodies weight or an external object
What is the Effort
Muscular force to move the load
Describe F-L-E?
First class middle - Fulcrum Second Class middle - Load Third class middle - Effort
What are the advantages and disadvantages of first class lever?
Advantages - strong, stable
Disadvantages - slow acting movement, limited flexibility
What are the advantages and disadvantages of second class lever?
Advantages - strong, stable
Disadvantages - slowing acting movement, limited flexibility
What are the advantages and disadvantages of third class lever?
Advantages - large range of motion, movement is fast
Disadvantages - the amount of force applied must always exceed the weight of the load.
Sagittal plane
A vertical plane, which passes from front to rear separating the body into right and left parts
Frontal plane
Passes from side to side at right angles to the sagittal plane, which separates the body into a front and back section
Transverse planes
A horizontal plane that separates the body into upper and lower parts.
