Levels of Organisation Flashcards
Give 7 levels of organisation in an organism
1) DNA
2) Nucleus
3) Cells
4) Tissues
5) Organs
6) Organ Systems
7) Organism
Give 3 structures of the DNA
1) Inside nucleus
2) Contains chromosomes
3) Weak hydrogen bonds e.g. ATCG
Give 3 functions of the DNA
1) Replicate itself
2) Genes code specific proteins for each cell
3) Send instructions needed for the development, survival and reproduction of living organisms
Give 2 structures of the nucleus
1) Contains DNA
2) Surrounded by nuclear membrane
Give 2 functions of the nucleus
1) Regulate gene expression
2) Control many of the functions of the cell by controlling protein synthesis
Give 2 structures of cells
1) Covered by a cell membrane
2) Contains a nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria etc.
Give 2 functions of cells
1) Intakes oxygen and nutrients
2) Produces own energy used to perform each cells specialised function
Give 4 structures of tissues
1) Nervous
2) Epithelial
3) Connective
4) Muscle e.g. Smooth, Cardiac, Skeletal
Give 4 functions of tissues
1) Nervous – Allows you to feel pain and respond to adaptations
2) Epithelial – Covers everything on the inside of your body, but only hollow organs on both the inside and outside
3) Connective – Fills in spaces between other types of tissue
4) Muscle – In internal organs, heart or near bones to produce movement
