Levels Of Organisation Flashcards
What is the nucleus?
An organelle which contains the genetic material that controls the cells activities.
How would you label an cell diagram?
With a nucleus, a cytoplasm and a cell membrane.
What is a cell membrane?
This membrane forms the outer surface of the cell and controls the substances which go in and out
What is a cytoplasm?
A substance where most of the bodies chemical reactions take place. It contains enzymes which control these reactions
How would you label a plant cell
With a vacuole, a cytoplasm, chloroplasts, a nucleus, a cell membrane and a cell wall
What are chloroplasts
Photosynthesis takes place here. They contain chlorophyll which is used in photosynthesis
What is a cell wall
A rigid structure made of cellulose, which surrounds the cell membrane. It supports and strengthens the cell.
What is a vacuole
A large organelle that contains cell sap and helps to support the cell
Why are most cells specialised
They carry out a particular function, so their structures can vary
What is a tissue
A group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function. A tissue can contain more than one cell type
What is an organ
A group of different tissues that work together to perform a function
What is an organ syste,
A group of organs that work together to form a system which carries out a particular job
What are organelles?
Tiny structures within cells. You can only see them with a powerful microscope.
