Diffusion Flashcards
Where does diffusion happen
In liquids and bases, because the particles in these substances can move around freely
How does the difference in concentration affect the diffusion rate
The bigger the difference in concentration, the faster the diffusion rate
What do cell membranes do
Hold cells together but let stuff in and out as well
How can substances move in and out of cells
By diffusion, osmosis and active transport
What kind of molecules can fit through cell membranes
Small molecules - (glucose, amino acids, water and oxygen) large molecules cannot fit (starch and proteins)
How does diffusion across cell membranes work
Particles flow through the cell membrane from higher to lower concentration. They move randomly, so they go both ways, but there will be a lot more particles on one side of the membrane and there’s a net movement from that side
What is diffusion
The net movement of particles from areas of high concentration to low concentration
