Lesson Pointers Flashcards
What to remember when doing a procedure (go around, emergency decompression etc)
Take time, don’t rush, ensure memory items are done
When can landing checklist be done
When ECAM message appears
How to make briefs more interactive
Ask PM about the minima, who the next call is to, stop alts, etc. get them involved
What to remember on steep turns
Passing through 30degs, increase the back pressure and add some more thrust. Bottom of box on 2.5degs
What to remember regarding rotation
Nice and steady, 3 degs per sec, look to end of runway until it disappears
How to have feet for rudder
Sit with heels on floor
How to cancel autothrust
Move levers so donut aligns to needle, then use toga switches to disconnect
Difference between climb and open climb
Climb = climb to level alongside fmgs constraints
Open climb = climb unrestricted to a level at optimum rate
Stall recovery
- Pitch down to -5degs and hold
- Ensure wings level
- Ask for spoilers disarmed and flaps 1 (below fl200)
- Hold attitude and let speed build
- Slowly add thrust and remove flap as pitch up
Tip for slower go around process with autothrust
Advance levers to toga to initiate, then reduce two detents to climb
What to remember to do with flight directors
Follow them quickly
Best config if kept high and fast to slow and descend
Flap 2 and gear
How to adjust if too high or low on non precision
For every 100ft high or low, adjust by 1 deg
Every 10ft high or low, adjust by 0.1deg
How to check flaps have moved
Firstly check ecam display, check lever position, then check flap number indication
What to call when intercepting radial for vor approach
PM “RADIAL ALIVE”
PF “CHECKED”
How to navigate final approach for non precision
Use heading selector on FCU (except loc app)
When to commence decent for non precision
0.3nm to D
What is said when at top of decent for non precision
PF- “VS- go around altitude set”
PM- checked
What to remember to announce on take off roll
FMAs
What are the Airbus brakes based on
Number of applications, not the how long used for
What to include in chart brief
Chart date and number
When to select gear up
ASAP when indications are there
How to recover from upset position
- Verbalise the upset
- Pitch down to unload
- Roll if not level
- Recover, use thrust if needed
Rebuild during recovery phase of upset
- Establish back in the climb
- FDs on
- Autothrust back
- AP back
Once ECAM and Status is completed, what is said
ECAM clear
Status remove
Where can all ecam alerts be found in MEL
Entries section
PF and PM role once levelled off in cruise
PF- click ECAM all and check pages
PM- check fuel levels and fill out paperwork
How to move thrust levers when engine failure
Smoothly
How to make a grid mora MSA on ND
Select flight plan page, LSK 1L and 1R, then enter/select a fix, enter opposite radials and radius
What if ILS DME needed for NPA
Hard tune the frequency only into the vor fields and leave ident blank
What is the battery check on the preliminary cockpit scan
Turn on, make sure 25.5v showing and then x check with ecam page and see how fast it recovers
What to do on ACP 3 on prelim scan
PA pulled out
Where to check irs has aligned
Nav, data present position page
How to select an approach once a flight plan already loaded already
FPL, 1L key, runway, app, right arrow, via the point, no star
When is normal strategy needed for cruise engine failure
When above the optimum cruise alt for single engine (prog page)
What to remember with engine failure go around or take off
Rudder- be progressive and smooth
What to do with engine fire p/b before pressing it
Confirm with PF
Biggest things to watch on single engine approach
Speed trend and rudder trim
How to put in an extended centreline
Direct to, select waypoint/somewhere in inbound track, then select radial inbound
What are the reference used for 1000ft and 500ft call
1000ft uses QNH
500ft uses rad alt
What to remember at V1
Exaggerate the removal of hand from thrust levers
What not to do on approaches or briefs
Ask too much, wait for him to come forward and ask/tell me
What is in a landing strategy brief
STAR
Approach
MAP
Landing (auto brake for conditions)
Taxiing
How to make my briefs interactive
Ask questions, get partner to clarify bits. Don’t take over
FNC part before ECAM handling
-check FMAs
-Check the speed, set levers a/r
-make sure the thing is still flying
Make sure we can perform the route and Nav is okay
Think about comms between us and atc
Biggest thing to be mindful of during test exercise
Work load management, and making sure ahead of the aircraft
How to make briefings more interactive
Ask partner to pick things out, ask them questions, make it an open discussion
