Q

What are the evaluation points for the cognitive interview?

A

👎- time ⏰ consuming- required ⏰ not always available to interviewer- takes ⏰ to establish rapport with 👁 witness… 👮‍♂‍ May be reluctant to use- prefer standard 👮‍♂‍ interview- quicker
👍- research support- Gieselman et al (1985)- pps shown video of staged crime- pps generated more info & more accurate through CI than standard 👮‍♂‍ interview & hypnosis interview
👎- ⬇️ successful with 👶- Geiselman (1999)- 👶 ⬇️ 6 years old report events ⬇️ accurately with CI- instructions difficult to understand- BUT effective with children 👶 ⬆️ 8 years old
👎- CI requires interviewer to receive lots of training to see results- interviewers who only received 4 hours ✖️ produce much more info than standard interviews
