What is hermeneutics, and what does it focus on?
Science of interpretation of scripture and it focuses on what the text would have meant to the original audience.
What is a major element in determining the context of a passage?
Historical criticism
What is textual criticism?
The science of determining the original wording of the Scripture.
What does exegesis do?
Guide or lead out. Exegesis starts with the original intended meaning and works forward to the present day.
What is eisegesis, and why should it be avoided?
This process attempts to use scripture to prove something and stats at the readers present position and works backward.
What is theology?
Theology is the study of God’s words or the doctrine of God.
List 5 of the most common reasons that Scripture is misunderstood.
- Not considering the context of the passage
- Not recognising the distinct covenants of the scripture
- Not understanding the purpose of a parable
- Not recognising the different time periods and expectation
- Not considering all the bible has to say on a particular subject

What is a parable?
Something placed alongside something else for comparison. A parable uses comparison to teach a spiritual truth.
