Know residents that are at risk

What are ways to prevent poisoning
Proper storage of medication and supplies

What are symptoms of heart attack/cardiac arrest
Symptoms include crushing pain on chests and arm , pain in neck or jaw that doesn’t go away
What should you do if someone is having a heart attack/cardiac arrest
Notify the nurse
Loosen clothing around as neck
Do not give food or fluids
Be prepared to initiate CPR
Remain with the resident until help arrives
What are some symptoms of a stroke/cerebrovascular accident or CVA
Symptoms include dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, headache, uneven smile, slurred speech
What should a CNA do if someone is having a stroke/cerebrovascular accident/CVA
Reports symptoms to the nurse
What are symptoms of a Seizure/convulsions
Staring spells, confusion, jerking movements
What should you do if someone is having a seizure/convulsions
Call for a nurse
Stay with the resident
Position the person on their side
Place padding under their head
Do not restrain or put anything in the mouth
