They rely on non-verbal cues like body language, sign language, in writing
What are some things you should do when working with someone that is hearing impaired?
Speak slowly and distinctly, you short sentences, face resident, use facial expressions and gestures, use sign language, communication boards and make sure the resident is using hearing aids
What cues to someone who is cognitively the impaired use?
They use both verbal and nonverbal cues
They may need messages repeated frequently using simple words and sentences
What is a way to promote residence independence?
Allowing them to do what they can without help

Providing a home like in safe living environment with daily routines designed to meet the residence specific needs

Let residence pick went to awake and sleep, frequency of bath and shower, preferred activities, choice of clothing, choice of meal times and when to use the bathroom
