Evacuation plan
Plan developed by the facility by which residence would be relocated to a safe area within the facility, outside the facility, or to an alternative location
Entrapment
A residence body part becomes lives between the bedframe and or mattress and the bed rail
Elopement
A resident exiting the facility who is whereabouts are unknown to the staff
Fire drill
Plan executed frequently to help workers learn what to do in the case of a fire
Flammable
Easily ignited…..capable of burning quickly
Pacing
Walking back-and-forth in the same area of the facility
Wandering
Walking aimlessly through the facility
What person would need the most help during a fire?
Totally dependent resident
What are the guidelines in the case of a fire….aka the RACE
1) Remove resident from immediate danger
2) Activate the fire alarm
3) Contain the fire
4) Extinguish if possible
What are the steps to using a fire extinguisher….Aka PASS
1) Pull the pin
2) Aim at the base of the fire
3) Squeeze the handle
4) Sweet back-and-forth at the base of the fire
What is the purpose of side rails and what are its dangers?
To enable the person to move independently
Dangers include in trapment which means they cannot move out of bed
What are some signs of exit seeking behavior
Frequently remaining at or near exit doors, shaking doorhandles, pacing, voicing desire to leave and return home, packing clothes, wearing shoes, hat, coat although in the facility
What residence wear Electronic bracelets
Worn by residents who are at risk for elopement
Be cautious as residents may remove bracelet with nail clippers or knife
What are coded entries for and who knows the code
They are to protect people from escaping and the codes are only known by staff
What are alarm doors for
To let staff know when someone has entered and exited a building
Protect those who escaped
