This is sociologists using already existing data as a form of research
What are examples of secondary research
Magazines, Books, Newspapers
What is primary research
This is sociologists actually using real people and scenarios to collect data
What are examples of primary research
Surveys, Questionnaires, Interviews
What are the 2 types of observations
Covert and overt observations
What is covert observation
The participants not knowing they are being observed
What is overt observations
The participants having knowlegde that they are being observed
What are the 5 main groups who are observed within education
Pupils, Teachers, Parents, Classrooms, Schools
How does power and status affect a sociologists research on pupils
Children generally have less status and this therfore makes it difficult for them to fully open up incase it challenges the views of the adults.
Teachers may be able to use the difference in status in comparison to students to affect which students are selected for research.
How can the negative aspects of power and status be overcome by sociologists
Group interviews instead of one to one to ensure the students feel comfortable.
Seperating the students from the teachers to stop the influence
