Lesson 16 Flashcards
What is streaming
The separation of children into different ability groups called streams.
What is the curriculum like for the streams
Each stream is taught separately from each other.
Why is it difficult to move once being placed in a stream
This is due to promotion being based on the teachers perception of the students within the stream.
Why are middle classes more likely to achieve due to being placed in higher streams
They are more likely to achieve do to the impression that because they are in a higher stream, they deserve to do better
How are working classes going to underachieve due to being place in lower streams
Due to being place in the lower streams they can only perform on the baseline of achievement
What is the A-C educational triage
This is the sorting of children on the basis of their knowledge
What are the 3 factors of the educational triage
Students who will pass anyways.
Borderline C/D students
The hopeless cases
Why are the students who will pass anyways not targeted
Because they already have the ability, the school deems it unnecessary to provide extra help
Why are the C/D borderline students targeted the most
Schools focus their time, effort and resources on these pupils so it can boost the schools standing within the league tables
Why are the hopeless cases not provided extra attention by the school
They are essentially babysat as they do not have the ability to pass
How did the new progress 8 GCSE grading system change grading
Schools will be judged on how much improvement they apply to the child.
This means that student scores will be even more valuable to the schools ranking within the league tables.
