What are peer groups
Social groups who hold similar interests such as age and backgrounds and or social status
How do peer groups affect education achievement
A student is surrounded by a bad peer group.
Therefore the student is less likely to achieve due to the peer group influencing the students behaviour.
What is differentiation
This is the separation of social groups and people based on biological, cultural and physiological factors
What is polarisation
The process of splitting into two different groups which are on the opposite sides of the spectrum
What the different ways that students react to streaming and school in general
Ingratiation, Ritualism, Retreatism, Rebellion
What is ingratiation
Being the teachers pet
What is ritualism
Going through the motions within school and staying out of trouble
What is retreatism
This is daydreaming and mucking about
What is rebellion
The outright rejection of everything school as to offer
What is Stephen Ball state about streaming
That schools should stream in favour of mixed abilities. This is because streaming may create the polarisation that was identified by Lacey
