Lesson 4 Flashcards
What are the layers on brain protection?
-skull
-dura matter
-Arachnoid membrane
-pia matter
-subchardinoid space
What are the four lobes of the brain
1.Frontal (executive function)
2.Paietal (sensory integration)
3.Temporal (auditory, taste, smell, memory)
4.Occipital (visual)
The cortex is the thin outer layer
4 different views of the brain
- dorsal ( from above)
- ventral (brain from below)
- Lateral view (brain from the side)
- medial view (brain from the side but cut in half)
What are the three major arteries that feed the brain?
- Anterior cerebral artery
- Midlle cerebral artery
- posterior cerebral artery
What is a stroke?
sudden neurological symptoms following severely reduced blood flow
Gray matter and white matter
Grey matter is mostly cell bodies and capillary blood vessels
white matter is nerve fibres covered by myelin sheath
What are ventricles
They are cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid, this fluid suspends the brain to reduce mass weight, it provides a stable enviorment for optimal functioning and it clears away waste from the brain
