Lesson 2.3 Tissues (A) Flashcards
Enumerate the 4 kinds of animal tissues
Epithelial tissues (epithelium)
Connective tissues
Muscle tissues
Nervous tissue
Is a type of animal tissue that forms the outer lining of organs, the covering in surfaces, and the primary glandular tissues in the body
Epithelial tissues / epithelium
Holds cells together
Basement membrane
Enumerate the types of epithelium
Simple squamous, simple columnar, simple cuboidal, pseudostratified,
stratified columnar, stratified squamous, stratified coboidal
Type of Connective Tissue:
Layers of a very hard matrix with calcium salts and collagen fibers
Bone or Osseous Tissue
Type of Connective Tissue:
-more flexible matrix than the bone
-cartilage cells called chondrocytes
-functions as protection and support
Cartilage
Type of Connective Tissue
-matrix is predominantly made up of collagen fibers and has lesser cells
-this is a fibroblast or a fiber forming cells
-functions as support
Dense Connective Tissue / Dense Fibrous Tissue
Type of Connective Tissue:
-matrix contains more cells and lesser fibers than dense connective tissues so it is softer
-functions as protection, insulation, storage, and support
Loose Connective Tissue
Type of Connective tissue:
-cellular components consist of blood cells
-with fibers that are only visible during clotting
-transports substance, immune responses, and blood
Blood
Type of Muscular Tissue:
-long, cylindrical, striated (with visible stripes) and is multinucleated
-attached to the skeleton
-involuntary muscle control
Skeletal Muscle
