A - Plant Tissues Flashcards
aerial part that grows or “shoots” upwards
Shoot System
organs that grow beneath and into the ground
Root System
Types of Plant Tissues:
● undifferentiated cells that make new cells
● dense cytoplasm and large nuclei
● found in growing plants like roots and stems
● responsible for the growth of the plant
Meristematic Tissue
Types of Meristematic Tissue:
● found in tips of roots and stem
● function: primary growth (height of the plant)
● root tips and termininal buds continuously divide to produce primary meristems
Apical Meristem
Types of Meristematic Tissue:
● found in stems
● primary function: secondary growth (width of the plant)
Lateral Meristem
2 Types of Lateral Meristem:
-responsible for increasing the diameter of stems and roots and for the forming woody tissues, plants then become sturdy and rigid.
-appars as a ring
Vascular Cambium
2 Types of Vascular Cambium
composed of xylem and phloem rays; aid in radial support of water and nutrients in wood systems
Ray Initials
2 Types of Vascular Cambium
responsible for producing secondary xylem and phloem.
Fusiform Initials
2 Types of Lateral Meristem:
● produces cork that replaces the epidermis of plants as they mature.
● cork acts as protection of plants from damage and disease-causing organism.
Cork Cambium
outer protection of woody plants
