Identity
The characteristics that is, or the characteristics that are, used to define an individual or collection of individuals.
Aggregate
A collection of individuals in the same location at the same time.
Category
A collection of individuals who share at least one characteristic but are otherwise unrelated.
Social group
Two or more individuals who identify and interact with each other.
Culture
Everything that people have, think, and do as members of a group or society.
Society
A social group that contains distinct social structures and institutions and, as such, is relatively self-sustaining.
Social Structures
Relatively stable arrangements of statuses and roles that persist over time.
Statuses
Social positions are occupied by individuals.
Roles
The expectations of how to think, act, and feel are associated with a specific social position.
Social Institutions
Sets of social structures and cultural ideologies that fulfill the needs and/or wants of a society.
Intersectionality
A recognition of the ways in which social structures make the complex identities of individuals the consequence and vehicle of vulnerability and privilege.
Vulnerability
A characteristic that increases the likelihood of unfavorable and/or undesirable experiences.
Privilege
Any advantage that is available and afforded to an individual, category, or group that was not earned is derived from the structures and institutions that surround them.
