Update, Upgrade, or Reinstall macOS
What are the differences between a macOS update, upgrade, and reinstallation?
Update—Installs an incremental update of the macOS but doesn’t upgrade it to the next major version.
Upgrade—Installs the next major standalone version.
Reinstall—Installs the same major version of macOS on a disk that already has macOS installed. This overwrites the existing system files but has no effect on data.
What steps should you take before you upgrade to macOS Mojave?
a. Verify installation requirements.
b. Connect to power.
c. Verify app compatibility.
d. Back up data.
e. Document network settings.
f. Open Software Update/App Store.

Installer uses your Mac model number for firmware updates specific to that model.

How do you reinstall macOS?
Go to Utilities, select Install macOS, accept license agreement. Select your volume and install.
What can you use to troubleshoot macOS installation issues?
From the macOS Installer menu bar, you can select the Window menu and then select and view the Installer Log.
