lesson 2 Flashcards
PARTS OF METAL FRAMEWORK
- Major Connector
- Minor Connector
- Direct Retainer
- Rest
- Denture Base retaining element
- Proximal Plate
- Tissue Stop
Part of the partial denture that connects the part
of the prosthesis located on one side of the arch
with those on the opposite side of the arch.
MAJOR CONNECTOR
TYPES OF MAJOR CONNECTOR (According to Location)
- Maxillary Major Connector
- Mandibular Major Connector
TYPES OF MAXILLARY MAJOR CONNECTORS
- Single Palatal Strap
- Antero-posterior Palatal Strap (Double Palatal
Strap) - U-shaped Palatal Strap (Horse-shoe Strap)
- Full Palatal Connector
TYPES OF MANDIBULAR MAJOR CONNECTORS
- Lingual bar
- Linguoplate
- Lingual bar with continuous bar retainer
(Kennedy’s bar) - Labial bar
- Swinglock
Unit of the partial denture framework that
connects the other component of the partial
denture to the major connector
MINOR CONNECTOR
Any form of attachment applied directly to an
abutment tooth used for fixation and retention
of the prosthesis.
RETAINER
TYPES OF RETAINER:
- Direct retainer
- Indirect retainer
A clasp or attachment to an abutment tooth for
the purpose of retaining the removable partial
denture in place and limits the displacement of
the removable partial denture in an occlusal
direction.
DIRECT RETAINER
Any part of the removable partial denture
framework which assists the direct retainer in
preventing displacement of an extension base by
functioning through lever action on the opposite
side of the fulcrum line.
INDIRECT RETAINER
TYPES OF DIRECT RETAINER:
- Extracoronal
a. Circumferential (clasp)
b. Bar type - Intracoronal (precision and semi-precision
attachment)
Some of the components that act as indirect retainers are
as follows:
- Auxiliary occlusal rest
- Direct retainers
- Major Connectors
Component of the partial denture placed on the
abutment tooth in a prepared rest seat, so as to
limit the movement of the denture in a gingival
direction:
REST
BASIC TYPES OF REST:
- Occlusal rest
- Incisal Rest
- Cingulum or Lingual rest
Extension of the finish line which serves to
support the denture base by retaining the resin
base to the framework. This do not contact the
oral mucosa
DENTURE RETENTION AREA
FORMS OF DENTURE RETENTION AREAS:
- Mesh
- Latticework
- Retention plate with pin head
A metal projection arising below the mesh that
contacts the underlying ridge to prevent the
mesh from touching the cast during packing of
resin. This is usually seen in distal extension
cases.
TISSUE STOP
Step-like preparation located on the edentulous
space and serve as a demarcation or junction
between the metal and the acrylic resin portion
to prevent feather edging of the resin material.
FINISH LINE
TYPES OF FINISH LINES:
- Internal Finish Line
- External Finish Line
Located internally on the tissue surface of the
denture and it is formed during blocking out of
the master cast.
INTERNAL FINISH LINE
Located on the polished surfaces of the partial
denture and it is formed in the wax pattern.
EXTERNAL FINISH LINE
Component of an RPD that rests on the residual
ridge and to which the teeth are attached.
DENTURE BASE
Requires the careful evaluation of all pertinent
diagnostic data.
TREATMENT PLAN
The art of identifying a disease from its signs and
symptoms.
DIAGNOSIS
situated in lingual portion
Lingual bar
○ lingual plate/lingual apron/lingual
shield.
○ Prevents calcular formation.
○ Situated in lingual mnd. Anteriors
Linguoplate
(Kennedy’s Bar/Double lingual bar)
Lingual bar with continuous bar retainer
○ if there is a bony prominence
○ Option for px who has torus
Labial Bar
for geriatric px
Swinglock
connects parts to the major
connector
Minor connector
○ Located at the mnd.
○ Elevated denture base
○ Use for Class I & II
Tissue stop
junction between denture base and
major connector
Finish Line
tissue side that precedes the ridge
Internal FL
