Lesson 11: Farming techniques/ sustainable fisheries Flashcards
How can the efficiency of food production be improved?
- The efficiency of food production can be improved by restricting energy
transfer from food animals to the environment.
How can we reduce the amount of energy that is transferred from grazing animals to their environment?
2 main ways.
- Controlling their movement.
- Controlling the temperature of their surroundings.
Give 2 disadvantages of rearing food animals indoors.
1.) Disease will spread quickly to all cows (indoors.)
2.) Aggressive behaviour (of animals to each other/ from humans) can cause harm
Give a way food animals are taken care off to ensure that they grow (so can supply enough meat.)
- Some animals are fed high protein foods to increase growth.
True or False
Fish stocks, in the ocean, are increasing.
- False.
- Fish stocks are declining.
At what level must fish stocks, in oceans, be maintained? If fish stocks aren’t maintained, what could happen?
- Maintain fish stocks at level where breeding continues.
- If fish stocks aren’t maintained, certain species may disappear all together in some areas.
What 2 main human improvements (to do with fishing) have played important roles in the conservation of fish stocks at a sustainable level?
2!!
1.) Control of net size.
2.) Introduction of fishing quotas (kind of like a license…)
