Lesson 1: Communities Flashcards
1
Q
What is an “ecosystem?”
A
- An ecosystem is the interaction of a community of living organisms
(biotic) with the non-living (abiotic) parts of their environment.
2
Q
In order for organisms to survive and reproduce, what do they need?
A
- To survive and reproduce, organisms require a supply of materials from
their surroundings and from the other living organisms there.
3
Q
What different things/ resources would animals compete for?
3 things!
A
1.) Food
2.) Mates
3.) Territory.

1.) Food.
2.) Shelter
3.) Pollination
4.) Seed dispersal.
6
Q
What is the idea of “interdependence”?
A
- Within a community, each species depends on another species for many things ie. food or seed dispersal.
- If one species is removed, it can affect a whole community.
7
Q
What is meant by a “stable community?”
A
- A stable community is one where all the species and environmental factors are in balance so that population sizes remain fairly constant.
