Q

Why is tissue culture important?

A

IMPORTANT FOR:
- Preserving rare plant species
- Helps to produce clones quickly / cheeply (commecially in nurseries.)

Q

What are the steps of an embryo transplant?

A

1.) Split apart cells from a developing animal embryo (before the cells in the embryo become specialised.)
2.) Transplant the identical embryos (split from the original embryos) into multiple host mothers.

The offspring produced will be identical.

Q

What are 5 the steps to adult- cell cloning?

A

1.) The nucelus is removed from an unfertlised egg cell.
2.) The nucleus from the adult body cell (ie. skin cell) is inserted into the egg cell.
3.) An electric shock stimulates the egg cell to divide to form an embryo.
4.) These embryo cells contain the same genetic information as the cell from the adult body (ie. the skin cell.)
5.) When the embryo has developed into a ball of cells, it is inserted into the womb of an adult female to continue its development.
