What is the injection criterium?
When the harm inflicted in the animal is greater than or equal to a injection done in good veterinary practice. Showss when something is coverede by the animal welfare act.
What sort of animals does the directive cover?
1) all live non-human vertebrates. larval forms. featal forms of mammals as far as a third from their normal development.
2) live cephalopods.
What is the correct term for something performed on an animal?
a procedure.
What are the classifications of severity?
1) non-recovery
2) mild
3) moderate
4) severe
What are the Felasa ABCD categories?
A = Carrying out experiments B = planning experimets C = taking care of animals D = Killing animals
What is a designated veterinarian?
A person that by the directive is required for the supplier/user for monitoring etc of the animals.
When should anasthesia be used?
Always unless deemed more traumatic for the animal. (and if it´s possible with the experiment) Same for analgesia.
Who can take a decision about whether to kill an animal after a procedure or not?
Vet or another competent person. The animal needs appropriate treatment if it stays alive.
When can you reuse an animal?
When the previous procedure is mild or moderate and the following mild, moderate or non-recovery.
When can primates be used?
1) basic research
2) Treatment of human disease
3) quality and more of the drugs in 2)
4) research amied at species preservation.
What is the competent authority for laboratory animals in denmark?
Fødevarestyrelsen. sub: Danish animal experimentation authority. 11 member board of animal experimentation has the final say.
How do I apply for permission?
1) contact the danish animal experimentation through their online form.
2) application is received, and processed and given over to the 11 member board which has the final say.
How long is the expedition time?
If everything is perfect - a couple of months.
Preconditions for licensing:
1) Proper qualification.
2) favourable cost-benefit
3) following regulations - 3R, proper methods.
How often are inspecctions?
1/3 of licenseholders need to be inspected each year. Both announced and unannounced.
What is an animal welfare body?
Thing each user/supplier etc have to set up. must include the person responsible for the care and maintenance, as well as the scientistand the designated vetrinarian.
What is the main purpose of the animal welfare body?
1) project oversight
2) talk about problems
3) new licences
4) husbandry
5) practices
What is the national comittee?
A government organ which role is the advice the competent authority and the animal welfare bodies on varies matters the 3Rs. In DK consists of a chairman and 6 experts in the 3Rs: 2 of each. Plus 3R seminars.
