- fit conventional stereotypes of leadership

Prevalence NPD
A
- about 1p in general population
- 2p in clinical settings
- if trait narcissism is increasing (maybe due to social media etc) , NPD may also increase
- are distressed, lonely, and have poor social functioning
- more likely divorced, unemployed and depressed
- > but of course only people with problems come to treatment
-about 40p of variance in narcissistic trait is inherited

- disorder has to impair functioning
- high levels of trait narcissism does not mean having NPD

- unique, more attractive
- less empathy ( so they are aware)
- less concerned about relational intimacy
- rate themselves better than others on agentic traits (achievement, competiveness)
- > say better than most
- communal traits -> oke

Theory: Narcissism as a self-regulation strategy
A
- are interested in enhancing or maintaining self-esteem
- accomplish this by seeking superiority to or dominance over other people
- > draw attention to themselves and perform exhibitionistic acts
- like to be around successful/popular people
- seek high status romantic partners
