What is the main purpose of ECI?
Early contract involovement allows for the contractor to be engaged early so that the design is better developed, there is a better understanding of parties and potential risks
What are the 3 SP’s?
Separable portion 1 = Secondary investigation + prelim design
Separable portion 2 = Planning and specimen design
Separable portion 3 = Detailed design + construction
When should ECI be used?
When there is a risk of not obtaining competitive tenders, To remove initial uncertainty and get a realistic price, to achieve better value for money
What are the advantages of ECI?
Less intensive tendering
Early procurement of materials
Increased innovation oppurtunity
What are the disadvantages of ECI?
Additional cost through optioneering with contractor and designer
Needs independent cost estimators
