Lecture 7 Flashcards
What is the role of female reproductive systems
- produce ova and secrete sex hormons
- recieves spermatozoa from the male
- provides site for fertilization of an ovum
- provides site for implantation of the blastocysts
- parturition follows gestation
- mammary glands provide nourishment
What are the categories of female reproductive structures
- primary organs = gonads= ovaries produce gametes = ova and sex hormones
- secondary sex organs - for successful fertilization of ovum implantation ecc (vagina, external genitalia, uterine tube, uterus, mammary glands)
- sex characteristics , fat in breasts , abdomen , mons pubis and hips , broad pelvis
Where does the material of the ovary in which follicle are embeddd lies
In both the cortical and medullary layers
What’s the function of Fallopian tubes
Transport located from ovaries to uterus
10 cm long 0.7 diameter
What are fimbriae
They are a number of finger like processes that project from the margin of the infundibulum they sweep the egg into uterine tube
Why are the layers of the uterus
Perimetrium myometrium endometrium (superficial dtrayum functional, deeper stratum basale)
How does puberty results
From increased secretion of gonafotropic hormones from anterior pituitary
Who delivers most of the hormones needed during pregnancy
The placenta
What are the primary hormones of pregnancy
Human chorionic gonadrotopin hCG , ESTROGEN, PROGESTERONE , HP,POMC
Which one is the predominant hormon during the first three months
HCG suppresses follicle maturation in ovaries and maintains production of estrogen and progesterone in corpus lutheum until 6th week
Where does the placenta recieves precursors from
Maternal and fetal adrenal cortex for hormones synthesis
What hormone rises steadily during pregnancy
Hpl and stimulates mammary enlargements and lactogen
Which hormone plays a role in hormonal regulation of birth
crH
What is naegele’s rule
Is used to predict the expected date of delivery on the basis of 28 days menstrual cycle
Subtract 3 months from the first day of the last menstrual period then add 7 days and 1 year
What are the stages of parturition
1- contractions begin
2- cervix dilatate
3- contractions and dilatantesi cervix facilitate birth
4- placenta expelled
