adheres to a process to which you have gone through the literature to decide what papers are important to you to help you understand what you are interested in

what is a meta-analysis?
a systematic method that uses statistics to analyze the data from numerous studies
- type of systematic review
- combine the data from studies with similar data types and analyze them as a single, expanded dataset
- a paper that analyzes many papers to provide a summary and quantitative evidence
what are the three phases of how to conduct the narrative literature review?
- find source of information
- critical literature review (looking at papers to see how relevant they are to your paper to see if you should include it) (also takes a look at papers that do not agree with you and figure out why they do not agree with you, maybe change your mind)
- synthesizing - writing the literature review, including the bibliographic details
what can be used at sources of information?
books, scholarly journals, newspapers and magazines, internet and experts’ opinions
what are some tips to reading research?
- get familiar with a small number of important publications
- do not get weighed down by peripheral research
- read the articles to capture the “big picture”
- the abstract is an excellent starting point
- do not get overwhelmed with statistical analyses
- pay attention to the discussion
