Lecture Summary:
- Panic attacks are episodes of intense anxiety and fear
- Agoraphobia is the fear of public or very crowded places
- The behaviour perspective explains panic as the result of interoceptive and exteroceptive conditioning and treats it with exposure (withholding safety behaviours)
- The cognitive perspective explains panic the result of distorted catastrophic interpretations of physical symptoms and treats it with interoceptive exposure and cognitive restructuring
