Lecture summary:
- Stress effects brain structure and function
- Physiologically, stress can be functional- but to a point!
- Significant individual differences in the management and regulation of stress
- PTSD can be a debilitating disorder
- Many psychological, biological, social and environmental risk factors for PTSD
- There should be a greater focus of protective factors/resilience
- HPA system has been a target for research which has produced some promising as well as contradictory findings – more replication is needed!
