11
Q

Why do people faints?

A

The sympathetic nervous system sends too many signals. In response, the parasympathetic system sends even more to fight. The sudden drop in HR and BP leads to lack of blood flowing to the brain.

16
Q

Define Pons. S&M.

A

Somatic connections ;
-sensory neurons & motor neurons

17
Q

Define Cerebellum and its functions. does laundry

A

Many folds, involved in movement control ; coordinated movements for multiple areas.

18
Q

What are the sections in the midbrain? sup-in

A

Superior Colliculus & Inferior Colliculus

19
Q

What are the Superior Colliculus & Inferior Colliculus functions?

A

low level sensory info ;; eye to ear, quick inputs. subconscious

20
Q

What are the important parts of the forebrain?

A

Cerebral cortex, subcortical structures, thalamus, and hypothalamus

21
Q

What are the 4 lobes of the cerebral cortex?

A

frontal, parietal. occipital, and temporal

22
Q

Define the function of the frontal lobe.

A

Motor, language production, executive functioning

23
Q

Define the function of Occipital lobe.

A

Vision from contralateral space

24
Q

Define the function of partial lobe.

A

Processes touch.

25
Q

Define the function of temporal lobe

A

language comprehension, sounds, visual info.

26
Q

What is in the spinal column?

A

Spinal cord and vertebrae

27
Q

What happens with a spinal cord injury?

A

Everything below the lesion will no longer work and have communication with the brain.

28
Q

What are 3 ways to stop breathing (EXAM ?)

A
  1. medullary respiratory center
  2. Drugs that are agonists of the Ach system at neural muscular junction in diaphragm
  3. Lesion at or above c3
29
Q

What do the 12 cranial nerves do?

A

Like any other nerves but in the head / comm. with CNS brain and PNS senses and muscles head

30
Q

What does cranial nerve 10 do?

A

below the head (heart, lungs, digestive system) ; vagus nerve

31
Q

What does the somatic system nerves do?

A

Sensory input, motor output, motor and sensory movement

32
Q

(DONEWhat does the Autonomic system nerves do

A

Vagus ; parasympathetic system (projects and receives)
