Q

What are the neural underpinnings of this behavior?

A

Nuclei in the hypothalamus Is bigger than females and other birds (CORRELATIONAL). When injected with chemicals to make this nuclei bigger, the birds sing (CASUAL). Take away the nuclei and they stop singing (necessary).
