Lecture 4-Design Process Flashcards
What are the 5 phases of design thinking?
1.Empathize with the users
2.Define the problem
3.Ideate
4.Prototype
5.Test
What is an empathy map?
-It can represent a group of users, like a customer segment.
-Helps understand your user’s needs while understanding the persons you are designing it for.
What are the 4 major areas in an empathy map?
Said
Did
Thought
Felt
What are journey maps?
-Helps you sketch out the user experience
-Timeline of all touch points between a user and a product
What is a user flow diagram/chart?
It describes the specific actions people take to accomplish their goal at a specific stage within their journey.
What are user flow diagrams advantages(4)?
-More easily communicate what the user flow should be.
-Make sure you don’t miss important steps in the process.
-Made decisions and changes at a low fidelity before you invest a lot of time in design.
-Get feedback from different stakeholders.
User flow vs user journey
User flow –> micro-level + focus on technicalities+ zoomed-in
User journey –> macro-level + focus on emotional state+overall picture
What is a scenario map?
It’s a story about someone using whatever is being designed to carry out a specific task or goal.
What are three user scenarios advantages?
-Determine the most important points to focus on during the UX design process
-Determine which steps of the process would need additional help to users
-Determine main needs and motivations of your users
What are storyboards?
-Linear sequence of illustrations, arrayed together to visualize a story.
-Visually predicts and explores a user’s experience with a product.
What is a prototype?
-An early sample of design used to get feedback ad rapid experiments with new ideas.
-Allow stakeholders to interact with it.
What are the 4 key components when building prototypes?
1.People
2.Objects
3.Location
4.Interactions
