Lecture 4 Flashcards
What are the main phases of cell cycle
- Interphase( cell grows and synthesize)
2.Mitosis(division of the nucleus) - Cytokinesis(Division of cytoplasm)
Chromosomes
Condensed DNA during cell division
Gene
Portion of DNA molecule that has genetic info
Genome
complete set of genetic instructions
Interphase
1.When the cell grows and synthesizes new molecules, membranes, DNA and organelles
2.During the g1 and g2 phase, the cells grows and structures
3.During the synthesis phase, the DNA is replicated for cell division
Stages of Mitosis. Prophase 1
- Dna condenses into visible chromosomes
2.Centrioles migrate to poles
3.Microtubules organize into spindle fibres
4.Nuclear membrane and nucleolus disassemble
Metaphase
1.Spindle fibres attach to centromeres
2.Chromosomes randomly align midway between centrioles
Anaphase
1.Sister chromatids pulled apart
2.Chromatids now individual chromosomes
3.Chromatids are pulled along spindle fibres toward opposite centrioles
Telophase
1.Final stage
2.Chromosomes complete their migrations to opposite sides of dividing cells
3.A nuclear envelope and nucleolus assemble for each new cell
4.Spindle fibers disassemble
5.Chromosomes inbond, taking back their chromatin form.
Cell divisions stops when…
Telomeres shorten too much
Epithelial
1.Protection, secretion, absorption and excretion
2.Covers body surface, internal organs and compose glands
3.Lacks blood vessels, readily divide ,cells are tightly packed
Connective
1.Bind, supports, protects, fills spaces, stores fat and produces blood cells
2.Throughout body
3.Good blood supply, cells have extracellular matrix in between
Muscle
1.Movement
2.Attached to bones, the walls of hollow internal organs
3.Contracts in response to specific stimulli
Nervous
1.Conducts impulses for coordination, regulation and sensory reception
2.Brain, spinal cord and nerves
3.Cells communicate with each other and body parts
Simple squamous epithelium
1.Filtration, diffusion, covers surface
2.Air sacs of the lungs, walls of capillaries, blood and lymph vessels, part of the membranes lining body cavities
Simple Cuboidal epithelium
1.Protection, Secretion
2.Surface of ovaries, linings of kidney tubules and ducts of certain glands
Simple columnar epithelium
1.Protection, secretion and absorption
2.Lining of uterus, stomach and intestines
Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
1.Protection, secretion, movement of mucus
2.Linings of respiratory passages
Stratified Squamous epithelium
1.Protection
2.Superficial layer off skin, linings of oral cavity, throat vagina and anal
Stratified cuboidal epithelium
1.Protection
2.Linings of ducts of mammary glands, sweat glands, salivary and pancreas
Stratified columnar epithelium
- Protection, secretion
- Part of the male urethra and linings of large ducts
Transitional epithelium
1.Stretchability, protection
2.Inner lining of urinary bladder and ureters and part of urethra
Areolar Tissue
1.Binds organs
2. Beneath skin, between muscles
Adipose tissue
1.Protects, insulates and stores fat
2.Beneath skin, around kidneys, behind eyeballs on surface of heart
