Lecture 33: Autoimmunity, hypersensitivity and skin] Flashcards
1
Q
What is bullous pemphigoid?
A
- AI disease due to formation of IgG abs against hemi desmosomal proteins (anchors between keratinocytes at epidermal-dermal junction)
- Blisters
- cerebrovascular accidents prior to blisters
2
Q
Explanation for cerebrovascular accidents prior to bullous pemphigoid?
A
- There are three bullous pemphigoid antigens:
- Neural form
- Skin form
- Muscular form
- Cross reactivity between antibodies
3
Q
How to diagnose bullous pemphigoid?
A
- Punch biopsy
- Direct immunofluroescence to test for IgG at dermo-epidermal junction
4
Q
pemphigus?
A
- superficial
- “attack” within epidermis
