Lecture 3: Personality Assessment Flashcards
1
Q
what are the four ways of assessing a personality trait
A
- self report (can be bias but views of the self from the self)
- observer data (unnatural, less bias, non intrinsic)
- test data (subjective, more variables)
- Life outcome data (can occur by chance, not biased, factual)
2
Q
what is validity
A
- the extent to which a test measured what it is supposed to measure
- we gain confidence in the construct
3
Q
what is reliability
A
- the degree to which the test represent “true” levels of this trait
- how accurate is it
4
Q
face validity
A
is there consensus that the test captures concept
5
Q
predictive validity
A
do scores on the test predict some important outcomes
6
Q
convergent validity
A
- do scores correlated with scores on a similar concepts
- to they converge with other established theories
7
Q
discriminant validity
A
- to what extent do scores correlated with concepts from which they should be distinct
- is the measure contaminated with other things
8
Q
construct validity
A
- how well does the test capture and represent the abstract concept
- basically a summary of all the different validities
9
Q
internal consistency reliability
A
- over items on a questionnaire/test: internal consistency
10
Q
over time reliability
A
- test retest correlation
- is it consistent over time?
11
Q
inter rater reliability
A
- raters look at the test and find consistency
12
Q
generalizability
A
- to what extent does our test remain valid in new context, different populations
