A
- the extent to which you like yourself (or various self concepts) an attitude
- domain specific: particular to a domain/aspect of your life
- global self esteem: the evaluative component of self knowledge

- persistence, coping, happier, view as more attractive, better relationships, better academics
- sometimes it is hollow: narcissism

A
- IAT (implicit association test)
- difference in reaction time when putting associating yourself with negative things and then positive things
- not always consistent (reliability concerns)
- explicit (self report): reliability concerns

- self esteem is the feeling that one is accepted; worthy of live, respect from others
- unconditional positive regard vs conditional positive regard
- conditional love = chasing other people’s goals and low self esteem

- self esteem is a fundamental need
- sociometer (i’m being kicked out of the group and have to survive)
- exclusion lowers self esteem but inclusion doesn’t consistently raise self esteem
