Lecture 3 Organisational Information Centric Flashcards

Q

HF - Know the difference between the process-centric and information-centric approach

A

Process-Driven has a bottom up approach. It eliminates funtional silos as much as possible. It establishes shared data as a foundation for horizontal integration. Information-Driven has a top down approach. It establishes master data as a foundation for vertical integration

Q

HF - Describe and understand features and functions of Master Data Management

A

Master data serves as a process-centric package. It contains data for other systems to use (z.B. ERP) It can be a bridge between ERP and CRM systems. There are three different domains (Account, Product, and Part). There are four implementation styles (Consolidation, Transaction, Registry, and Coexistence).

Q

Describe the Consolidation implementation style of MDM

A

In the Consolidation style, master data is aggregated into a common repository for reporting and reference. It is good for preparing data to feed down-stream systems, but it is read-only; therefore it will not always be up-to-date. It is used for analytics.

Q

Describe the Registry implementation style

A

The Registry requires a thin system of record to be maintained with links to more complete data spread across systems; useful for real-time reference. Therefore, you can view a complete view in a short amount of time. However, this system may be more complex to manage. It is used for operational methods.

6
Q

Describe the Coexistence implementation style

A

A single view of master data is managed, which is synchronized changes with other systems. This means you can read and write from the master data. However, it may not always be consistent with other systems. This is used in collaborative, operational, and analytical settings.

Q

Describe the Transactional Hub implementation style

A

This single view provides access via services. The benefit is the system of record which supports new and existing transactional applications. However, it may require updating in order to exploit this advantage. It is used in a collaborative, operational, and analytical setting. This is the only system of record.

Q

Definition of Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A)

A

refers to the techniques, technologies, systems, practices, methodologies, and applications that analyze critical business data to help an enterprise better understand its business and market and make timely business decisions. It is the predecessor of Big Data :))

Q

Describe the High Level Framework to BI&A

A

Data sources containing vast amounts of data are put into a data warehouse by technical staff. This involves organizing, summarizing, and standardizing the data. Business users use the combed through data and manipulate it to derive new, efficient business practices. This is passed on to managers/executives, which can be used in BPM strategies

Q

How specific can business analytics be?

A

They can be as simple as providing reports which are mental models of a business. Or, more advanced analytics will build models and present insights to users.
