Lecture 2 Organisational Process Centric Flashcards
What 4 Systems make up the historic development of managing business processes?
Calculation Systems (Single Purpose Modules), Functional Systems (Inconsistency, Heterogeneity), Integrated Systems (ERP), Service Oriented Systems (Multiple ERPs, Very Custom set-up)
What categories of processes can be automated?
HR (Payroll, development and training), Sales and Marketing (Forecasting, customer management), Accounting and Finance (General ledger, accounts receivable and payable), Operations (Order entry), Manufacturing (Inventory, Planning, Scheduling)
What are some problems of functional systems?
Data duplication and inconsistency, disjoint applications, limited information and lack of interated systems, isolated decisions, inefficient overall activities, increased operation costs
Definition: ERP
The ERP system is an integrated set of programs that provides support for core organizational activities such as manufacturing and logistics, finance and account, sales and marketing, and HR. An ERP system helps the different parts of the organization share data and knowledge, reduce costs, and imporve management of business processes.
Definition: Industrie 4.0
Focus to creating smart products which can talk to each other.
Characteristics of Smart Factories
Holistic horizontal integration through value networks, end-to-end digital integration of engineering across the entire value chain, deep vertical integration and networked manufacturing systems
Characteristics of Smart Products
Know details of manufacturing process, uniquely identifiable and may be located at all times
What can smart factories and smart products offer?
Individual customer demands, dynamic processes, optimized decision making, new business models
What is Business Process Management? (BPM)
The discipline that combines knowledge from information technology and knowledge from management sciences and applies this to operational business processes. It helps organizations to standardize and optimize their business processes. On a tactical and operational level, it helps with the execution and modeling of processes. These models contain how the workers interact with the technological system.
What are the three steps to BPM, in order for it to be useful?
Measure - Intervene - Action
What are the external forces that are making product life cycle management necessary?
Globalization, product complexity, shrinkage of product lifecycle, push into the supply chain, environmental issues
What are the internal forces making Product Lifecycle Management necessary?
Need for innovation, customer intimacy, operations excellence, and streamline informational processes
What is the goal of Product Lifecycle Management?
to connect various stakeholders over the entire lifecycle of the product from concept to retirement. It connects the three phases (Design, Production, Sales and Service) together
