Lecture 2 - Hypothalamus/Pituitary 2 Flashcards
Oestrogen signalling?
classical (cytoplasmic receptor -> nucleus) and non-classical (involvement of signalling cascade)
CREB?
enzyme inhibited by oestrogen in GnRH neurons
Kisspeptin regulation of GnRH neuron activity during puberty?
positive feedback RP3V, negative feedback ARN
Acromegaly condition?
increased somatotrophin and failure to decrease blood glucose in oral glucose challenge test
Acromegaly presentations?
enlarged pituitary, headache, increased BP, protruding jaw and enlarged small bones (hands and feet)
Idiopathic central precocious puberty?
mutation of proline into arginine, leading to prolonged intracellular signalling pathways related to kisspeptin, increasing amplitude pulse of GnRH
Kallman syndrome?
GnRH deficiency leading to delayed/absent puberty and bone weakness
