What were the features of Egyptian art?
Realism of little importance. Aim to convey as much information as possible. Governed by the rules of 'decorum' Order + Hierarchy Includes writing, 2D + 3D
How is hierarchy portrayed in art?
reisters, size and use of space.
How is the human form generally portrayed?
Profile, with only the shoulders, arms and upper torso in frontal.
How were human hands generally shown?
Strongly formed and held in preyer.
How did art start with?
Red-line work to sketch out before black ink was used.
What kind of animals are presented in art?
Both realistic and fantasy.
How was water shown in art?
Both transparent and opaque. Layering the hieroglyph of water.
Name one temple Facade that is an example for Egyptian art.
The Luxor temple facade.
What does the Luxor temple facade depict?
Kings on their thrones.
What conversion do hieroglyphs follow?
same as art, however they do show rare full frontal faces.
What do registers show?
Order, hierarchy and the passage of time.
What is raised relief art?
Art is carved into the walls - indented
What is sunken relief art?
Where the art extends from the wall

Tomb 100, Hierakonpolis c.3100 BC
What evidence do we have of preparation for wall art?
Drawing boards found at Deir el-Medina from the N.K and roughly carved statues

As the Idealistic or perfect pharaoh.
What happened to art under usurpation?
Monuments were changed, re-purposed or dismantles.

Amana period.
Name 2 major periods of change in art.
New Kingdom and Amarna period.
What were the art changes from the New Kingdom?
A wider use of colour, bodily forms and expressions
What were the art changes from the Amarna period or Akhenaten’s reign?
Focus of tomb art shifts to that of Aten.
Strange changes to the human body = more feminine.
