Lecture 2 Flashcards
Common model of consumer studies (no specific name)
variables:
- consumer –> practices activities –> well-being
- social context
- physical context
- resources ((im)material)
- government, organizations, companies
who is the user?
a person
- using material, technologies and/or services for his (basic) needs
- focus on interaction between user & technology
Consumer-Technology Interaction model
variable:
- household activities
- level of living
- standard of living + norms and values in society
- level of well-being
- household resources + facilities
- resources (outside)
- emission
activities aimed to satisfy & create standard of living that fits with their well-being
within household: human (skills) & material (housing, money)
ouside household: facilities and resources
it’s a system of input, throughput & output (= level of living)
if your level of well-being is not okay: change standards of living & household activities
tradable: time, money & skills
options made by: now vs. later & other vs. me
Practice theory vs CTI-model
Looks a lot like each other
- competences = household resources
- material = same
- meanings = de rest
functioning of technology
required input –> desired & undesired wideout linked to the use of the product –> primary output (support, substitution or extension of human activities)
When do consumers accept innovative technology
- perceivability of effects (useful)
- extent of congruence with current activities (helps with me)
- logistic fit (logic)
- extent in which function fulfillment corresponds with traditional technology (previous)
findings article “consuming technologies-developing routines”
3 perspectives on technologies
1. how they entered homes (technology assessment)
2. how they are purchased ( technology acceptance)
3. user perspective, how routines were developed (technology use)
findings article “technology & household activities
model CTI explained
additions: 4 types of interactions within the model to keep balance
1. perceivability: effects need to be noticable
2. action compatibility: good change needs to happen
3. logistic compatibility: is it compatible within household & resources
4. functional compatibility: functional performance needs to be good, can it work
2 strategies:
1. restore level of living by new resources
2. adapt the standard of living & new situation becomes new standard
