Lecture 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Break down of nervous system
A
2
Q
Types of Neurons in the Somatic NS
A
- Sensory neurons carry signals from the outer parts of your body (periphery) into the central nervous system.
- Motor neurons carry signals from the central nervous system to the outer parts (muscles, skin, glands) of your body.
- Interneurons connect various neurons within the brain and spinal cord.
3
Q
Somatic nervous system made up of what nerves
A
Spinal nerves: They are mixed nerves that carry
sensory information into and motor commands out of the spinal cord. (afferent takes info in, efferent takes info out)
Cranial nerves: They are the nerve fibers that carry information into and out of the brain stem.
4
Q
CNS vs PNS
A
5
Q
Autonomic makes up what NS
A
Sympathetic NS and parasympathetic NS
6
Q
Sympathetic Division
A
“fight, flight, freeze, fawn”
–Controls functions that accompany arousal and expenditure of energy
–Coordinates responses to a stressor
–Aka Thoracolumbar System
