Lecture 19: Memory and the Hippocampus Flashcards
1
Q
Pattern Completion
A
Reinstatement of a memory from a partial cue (something reminding you of something else)
2
Q
Two-stage model for memory formation in the hippocampal-cortical circuit
A
- Sensory experience gets encoded and reaches the cortex
- Cortex sends info to hippocampus
- Hippocampus stores it for a little while (hours, days) (encoding)
- Information propagates from the hippocampus to the cortex during sleep
- Memory representation is no longer in the hippocampus, it is stored in the cortex
2
Q
Hippocampal Replay
A
- A time-compressed reoccurrence of the same sequence of place-cell firing as during recent behavior
- Also happens during sleep to put memory into cortex
- Supports learning
