Lecture 19 - Femoral Triangle and Vessels of the Lower Limb Flashcards
Describe and locate the femoral triangle
Triangular space, located in the groin region
List the boundaries of the femoral triangle
superiorly: inguinal ligament
inferiorly (floor): iliopsoas and pectineus
medially: adductor longus
laterally: sartorius
The inguinal ligament attaches from where to where?
From ASIS to pubic tubercle
List the contents of the femoral triangle starting from lateral to medial
Femoral Nerve Femoral Artery Femoral Vein EMPTY Lymphatics
What is another name for the adductor canal?
Subsartorial canal
Where is the adductor canal found?
Lies deep to sartorius, from the apex of the femoral triangle to the adductor hiatus
What are the contents of the adductor canal?
Femoral artery
Femoral vein
Saphenous nerve
Nerve to vastus medialis
Where is the adductor hiatus found?
the space at the distal aspect of adductor magnus
What does the adductor hiatus allow?
allows vessels to pass from anterior to posterior of the thighs and vice versa:
- femoral artery passes from anterior to posterior and becomes popliteal artery
- popliteal vein passes from posterior to anterior and becomes the femoral vein
