What did Fred Sanger do?
He used DNA and broke it into small pieces and figured out sequence DNA and proteins. He found the structure of insulin and created the Sanger sequencing method

What was the goal of the human genome project?
Identify all ~20,000–25,000 human genes and determine the complete 3 billion DNA base pairs.
What were some of the problems with the human genome project?
It was super slow at the beginning and expensive as well. There were many repetitive DNA sequences and high error rates.
What was the Venter issue of the Human Genome Project?
He believed the sequencing was too slow and expensive saying it couldve been done faster. He founded Celera and also wanted to make money off the project. He wanted to sell the project to pharmaceutical companies, essentially privatize it.
What happened when the machines got more advanced?
They could now sequence close to 4 million pairs. It was even faster than Venter
Who wanted to make the human genome project public to the people?
Francis Collins wanted to make the results be public to the people, free of charge. He got much more ahead of Celera and released more results.
Why did Wallstreet care about the genome project?
It was seen as an opportunity for a boom in money for pharmaceuticals and a potential revolution in gaining profit from medicine.

He worked alongside Venter to make money off the genome project
What was found in the human genome project about DNA?
A lot of it was junk DNA like transposable DNA and repeat DNA

A much better tech that reads more sequences than short reads. It buzzes through quickly where the position is

Biology was put in the same plane as physics in terms of money.
Why was the genome project declared a tie?
To cool down the tension and give equal appreciation
