Sinai Covenant -

A

Ten commandments (words) = the stipulations of the rules governing the covenant between God as the Suzerain and Israel as the vassal, Exod. 34:28; Deut. 4:13;10:14 use the phrase 10 “words.”This set of laws is known as theDecalogue.

Suzerein-vassal treaty-

The Covenant form is used in Hittite and Assyrian society to set the rules between the Suzerain(dominant nation)and the vassal(conquered nation)outlining what the vassal needed to do in obedience to the Suzerain

Casuistic law vs. Apodictic law-Casuistic –

A

Similar to case law dealing with the particular. These laws are characterized by the opening conditional clause “if a person does …’’ followed by a statement regarding the penalty for the person who commits the action described in the conditional clause. oApodictic –more general laws that are often in the form of a prohibition, “do” or more likely “do not” as in the ten commandments.
