What is the DSM-5 criteria for Social Phobia?
1.) marked fear/anxiety bout social situations involving scrutiny of others
2.) fear of anxiety symptoms causing humiliation or rejection
3.) social situations provoke fear/anxiety
4.) avoidance or endurance with intense anxiety
5.) fear is excessive/out of proportion
6.) persistent - 6months+
7.) avoidance impairs function
What is the DSM-5 criteria for Generalised Anxiety Disorder?
1.) excessive worry, more days than not, for 6months+ about a number of events/activities
2.) difficulty controlling worry
3.) 3 or more: restlessness, fatigue, poor concentration, irritability, muscle tension, sleep disturbance
4.) anxiety causing distress or impairment
5.) not attributable to a drug or medical condition
6.) not another mental disorder
How does Generalised Anxiety Disorder differ from non-pathological worry?
excessive, interferes with psychosocial functioning, pervasive & distressing, frequent, impairs functioning and efficiency.
What are the 2 types of worry?
Type 1 (positive), type 2 (negative)
What is type 1 worry?
Positive elements - worrying about external events
What is type 2 worry?
Negative elements - worrying about experiencing worry/anxiety
What is a Potentially Traumatising Event (PTE)?
unpredictable/uncontrollable/severe event that causes a catastrophic violation of fundamental beliefs and expectations about safety, physical integrity, trust & justice
What is the DSM-5 criteria for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder?
1.) Exposure to actual or threatened death, injury or sexual violence by: direct experience, witnessing, learning its occurence to close family/friends, repeated exposure to details of event.
2.) 1+ intrusive symptoms: dreams, flashbacks, etc.
3.)avoidance with associated external or internal stimuli
4.) negative alteration to cognition or mood
5.) physiological arousal/reactivity
6.) duration of 1month+
7.) significant distress or impairment

What is the DSM-5 criteria for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
1.) the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions
2.)time consuming or causing distress or functional impairment
3.) not attributable to substance use or other medical/mental condition
What are obsessions, in terms of OCD?
recurrent, persistent, intrusive thoughts - urges or images. individual attempts to ignore or suppress them, or neutralise them with thoughts/acts/compulsions
What are compulsions, in terms of OCD?
repetitive behaviours or mental acts that a person feels driven to perform in relation to an obsession, o reduce anxiety or prevent an event occurring.
What are some common themes in OCD?
Cleaning, symmetry, taboo thoughts, harm to self or others
